Frequently Asked Questions
In order to help alleviate the stress that accompanies any procedure, we have provided the answers to some of the most common questions our patients ask us. If you do not find the information you are looking for, please feel free to contact us.
Can I drive myself home after the procedure?
No. You must have a driver over the age of 18 to drive you home after your procedure. You cannot use public transportation or a taxi. If your driver decides to leave, they must leave a phone number where they can be reached in case of an emergency. If you do not have a driver, your procedure will be canceled.
When is the last time I can eat and drink?
Please call your doctor for specific instructions regarding the necessary preparation for your procedure. Please remember than in addition to food, you cannot chew gum or suck on mints or candy. If you do not follow your physician’s instructions, your procedure may be canceled.
Can I take my medications before my procedure?
Check with your doctor’s preparation instruction sheet. Most necessary medications may be taken with sips of water two hours prior to your procedure time, but check with your doctor regarding diabetes medications or blood-thinning medications, such as Plavix, Pradaxa or Coumadin, as soon as possible.
When should I start my prep?
Your doctor will provide you with instructions prior to your procedure.
What if I have problems with my prep?
Some people have difficulty tolerating the prep. If your questions are not answered on your prep sheet, please call your physician’s office number. A physician is always on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
What do I need to bring the day of my procedure?
- Your insurance card(s).
- Driver’s license or photo ID.
- A list of your current medications and dosages.
- Any co-pay as indicated by your insurance coverage.
- Leave valuables and jewelry at home.
- Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes.
- Plan to arrive at the center one hour prior to your procedure time. You should expect a stay of two to three hours total.
- If you’re younger than 18, you must have a parent or guardian accompany you to sign your paperwork. If you are an adult who is unable to sign the consent, you must have someone with you who is authorized to sign on your behalf.
- If your driver cannot stay, you must provide the name and phone number of the person (must be 18 years or older with a valid driver’s license) who will be taking you home. You will not be permitted to drive, take a taxi alone or leave the center without an adult chaperone.
How long will I need to be at the center?
You should expect to be at the center for about two – three hours for consent form review, insurance information, pre-procedure anesthesia evaluation, procedure time and recovery time, depending on the complexity of the procedure.
Do I need to cancel my procedure if I have a cold/fever?
If you have symptoms of the flu or you are sick with a fever, please reschedule your appointment and contact your primary care physician for medical care. If you are coming to the center for a procedure and have symptoms of the flu, your procedure will be canceled.
How does billing work for my procedure?
You are expected to pay your co-pay at the time of your appointment. Your insurance company may receive up to four bills related to your services. They consist of our facility fee, your physician’s professional fee, anesthesia services and, in some cases, laboratory services. You may be responsible for a portion of these charges, as directed by your insurance company. If you have questions about any of these charges, please call our billing service at (302) 283-3300.
